Regular price ₱1,090.00

Pineapple-Silk-Abaca is an innovation of the well-known traditional textile which is Pineapple Silk. This delicately handwoven textile is made by the most-skilled weavers of Aklan. Like Pineapple Silk, it is lightweight, translucent and slightly crisp to the touch like organza. The noticeable feature of this fabric comes from its striped texture created by alternating pineapple yarns (Ananas Bracteatus) with hand-twined Abaca (Manila Hemp or Musa Textilis). Pineapple-Silk-Abaca is slightly smoother to the skin compared to Pineapple Silk.

Our Pineapple-Silk-Abaca can be manipulated to create structured and airy designs. Because it uses natural yarns, it is breathable and cool to the skin. It is an ideal material for embroidery and is also very receptive to natural dyes.

Care & Washing Instructions:

Pineapple-silk-abaca can also be considered an heirloom textile handed from one generation to another. Keep it in mint condition by doing the following:

  • Gently hand wash in cool or lukewarm water.
  • Use only diluted mild liquid detergent or hand soap. Lightly agitate for three to five minutes and rinse well. Avoid soaking for more than 5 minutes. DO NOT machine wash. DO NOT bleach.
  • DO NOT Wring. Hang or put on a clean flat surface or towel to dry. Roll out in a clean, absorbent towel to remove excess moisture. Air drying is still the best. Keep away from direct sunlight or heat source.
  • Press or iron using the lowest or silk setting while the fabric is still damp. Spray with a little water before ironing if the fabric is dry. Use a cotton-covered ironing board. DO NOT USE steam.
  • Store in a cool and dry place where air circulates. For long-term storage, wrap the fabric with acid-free tissue paper or cover with cotton fabric to protect it from moisture that causes stains. Use cedar chips or moth balls to keep bugs away.
